When you book some great airfare for a plane trip, you will probably be both proud of yourself and very happy. That is, until you reach the airport and realize that your one bag is going to cost you an extra $50 if you take it with you round trip! If you want to avoid this, one of the keys is knowing how to pack light – fitting everything you need for a trip into a single carry-on. Even though this might seem impossible to you at first, it will be well worth the money to try to learn how to pack light!
The first thing you should do is make sure the bag you are packing your items in will work as a carry-on; look up the specifications of the airline you are going to be using. And actually, you will probably be surprised when you realize that carry-ons are generally allowed to be much larger than you might have expected. The next step of the packing process is to make a list of all the necessities for your trip – and make sure you only include true necessities! For instance, you will need a toothbrush, clothes to sleep in, a new outfit for each day, and other things like this. But even though you might want to bring four pairs of shoes for a four day trip, this should not be included on the list of “necessities!” After you have made this first list, you will be ready to make your second list – which is all those items that you can categorize as “wants.” The extra pairs of shoes would fall into this category; and again, make sure that you are not putting the “wants” on the “necessities” list! Your third list will be your “extras” list – and know, these are the items that will probably not make the cut! Once you have these lists, you can pack the necessities, and then start adding the “wants” (and if you have room, the “extras”) to the bag. And when you run into a “want” that you have a hard time not bringing, just ask yourself this question: “Do I really want to pay $50 just to bring this item!”Tags:General
