Among all online travel agencies, Expedia is one of the largest and most well-known. Expedia connects you to airfare, hotel rates, and everything in between, helping you to book all aspects of your trip, in much the same way travel agencies operate. Furthermore, Expedia can gather all the information needed to help you in just a few seconds, which is much different from travel agencies where an agent must to a whole lot of leg work. All you have to do is supply Expedia with the information they need, and they will tell you the best rates for your trip.
However, unlike a good travel agent, Expedia does not have the ability to go that extra mile for you. For instance, when Expedia asks for the information they need, they request that you input the expected departure and return dates for your trip. After you input this information, Expedia will search flights on those days for the best rates. What they will not do, however, is remind you that you might find lower rates by traveling on non-peak days (that is to say, by traveling in the middle of the week instead of on the weekends). When you input your information, take the time to try out some different dates. If you have any leeway regarding the day you can leave and the day you can return, you can save some money with this extra step. Expedia also will not remind you that you can fly into a different airport than the one you are thinking of and perhaps save extra money. For instance – and this is especially the case if you are planning to rent a car on your trip – you could maybe find a cheaper fare flying into Providence, Rhode Island or Manchester, New Hampshire instead of flying directly into Boston. Los Angeles and New York City are a couple other cities that have nearby airports that could potentially save you money. You will have to take these extra steps yourself when booking flights, hotels, car rentals, et cetera on Expedia. Expedia will, however, take care of the rest once you find the best rates, into the best cities, on the best days! You will not need to go through the process of booking each portion of your trip; just like a good travel agent, they take care of this for you.
